It’s true. My first night spent away from you went off without a hitch. That’s good, I guess, though I wouldn’t have minded being missed. I went with Aunt Dates, Lala and Mammy to a women’s spiritual weekend. We had apps, great fellowship, dinner out, and then Aunt Dates popped for a hotel room for the girls to really live it up! Honestly, I really didn’t sleep all that well, but the important thing is you did. And Daddy did great getting you ready for bed all by his lonesome and getting you started the next morning for the day. He admitted to me that it takes a lot of creativity and energy entertaining you for even four hours. (I know! Tell me about it!) I missed your sweet smile, of course, but I also really enjoyed the longed-for independence. If only I could’ve slept in… I think it did me good to be away from you for a while; I was so happy to see you this afternoon!
In celebration of my rejuvenating absence and the reunion of the Fotopulos family (it was only one day), the three of us cavorted in East Nashville all afternoon. We had ice cream, walked to get you some organic milk at Turnip Truck, had some coffee at Bongo East and a beer on the patio at the Edge, despite the hairdryer heat and cruel humidity. (It’s much more abusive heading in and out of air conditioned spaces to me anyway.) It was a perfect family afternoon, and I was glad to be back with my boys.
